19 Days To Go: The Golkann People

Technology Is Everything! Religion? Nothing.

The Golkann City Of Makoloesh

Pronounced (Goll-A-Karn) The Golakann are a nation of Billions that cover just over half of the planet. They were initially a loose collection of those who showed appreciation toward Golkann Rodarn the man who discovered the ‘Grand Engine’ (technology that gave birth to the innovations that created the Golkann nation)

Then, aged thirteen, a young scientist called Mabior, who had an IQ way beyond her years. Consolidated the scattered group of Golkann Rodarn ‘followers’ around the world into an organised collective. They studied the mysterious ‘Grand Engine’ and from this, over the next five decades created androids, flying vehicles and spacecraft with the ability to travel faster than light. Read more about Golkann tech here.

These androids were ordered to build, build, build! They essentially “upgraded” half of the planet. They built–under the direct orders of Mabior–towering structures, new roads. Gutted and rebuilt agricultural areas, all in a rush, in a drive to create a world run by advanced technology as opposed to the simple people who lived before her. Mabior was the sole driver for this innovation.

Now, decades on, an older Mabior sits as the most powerful ruler on the planet with an almost global army of androids, military and advanced weaponry.

The Golakann people live with androids, flying vehicles and high-tech conveniences as an everyday way of life, as opposed to their more religious, rural Osihlian brethren.

The Golkann people do not believe in any kind of God. They are people of science. Some sects of the nation are open to the idea of some kind of creator. Others are atheists. Technology is an everyday part of Golkann life. You’re considered strange if you don’t have an android. Almost like not owning a mobile phone in today’s world.

When you walk inside a Golkann home or commercial building or area, you’re entering a showcase of the latest in El-Baynan innovation. Automated cooking, self regulating heating and lighting, androids.

In the world of Project Preservation, the absence of the internet is because it was never invented, not in the manner that we know it. However, there are communication devices and displays, which show black and white pictures of mostly live events and live updated text of events and news.

Medically, the Golkann people are working on nanotechnology and utilise many advanced medical practices for their people. And deep in the hidden underground facilities of the supreme leader’s military, Golkann engineers have created waiting spaceships that can travel faster than light.

Being a Golkann means being a highly educated, affluent, modern person. Religion is looked at as a dusty relic from the past. The closest thing to a God the Golkanns would have, would be the man himself Golkann Rodarn who started it all so long ago.

There’s no slavish deity style worship of Mabior, although of course some idolise her, what with her being the most powerful person on the planet. As a Golkann, you’re your own person. If you want to read the Osihlian books you can, but to convert to the Osihlian religion by its very definition means giving up all the conveniences and luxuries of Golkann tech. Very few choose to do that. Although some Osihlians straddle the line, and have androids and, of course, drive ACVs (air cushioned vehicles)

Naye, the main character in the book is Golkann, but as you will discover, she becomes something neither Osihlian, Golkann or Zumien. She becomes something completely different altogether.

When the angels from heaven descend upon the planet El-Bayna, the Golkann military is called upon, but they soon find that, regardless of their advanced weaponry, they may still be outmatched.
