18 Days To Go: A Large Stand Alone Novel!
The Story Of Project Preservation Begins And Ends With This Book
Project Preservation, at almost 500 pages (in large hardback form), is a self contained Sci-Fi story. One that I hope might one day be the springboard for more stories told in this universe and in this world.
Larger than the Hunger Games, each individual Lord Of The Rings book and by default many indie Sci-Fi books. There is a reason for this, personally as a reader, if I know a book I’m about to dive into isn’t a self-contained story, for me, it’s off putting.
I realise I must be in the minority, as these words accompany nearly every indie (Book 1 of 5) or (First book in the series of 7) etc. This practice I imagine is successful, hence so many partaking in it. It, of course, in no way is a reflection on the author if they do this. I’m just speaking for myself, in my own little blog.
I want the thing all nicely finished with the book I hold in my hands. The entire story of Project Preservation is contained within the book, from beginning to end. It’s wrapped up in one book. Once it’s done, that’s it.
It’s really important for me to be wrapped up in the book's world I’m reading. Almost like it’s one large universe in my hands. I don’t want to charge the reader more to extend a story, nor do I want them waiting for the second half.
However, within the story there are flashbacks, multiple characters, lots of potential for spin offs and prequels. I dream, as all authors do, that one day, long after I’m gone, the world in this book will expand even further, much like dare I say it, a Star Wars, for example. (humble goals right) with its various prequels and new tales within the universe that are now over forty-five years old!
All these are dreams and fantasies of a debut author. I’m no different to every other sci-fi author regarding my aspirations. You have to dream big and think big, as I did when writing this story, my debut.
I love the idea of returning to tell the stories of those in Project Preservation from their perspectives, or having them embark on totally new adventures that were never told in Project Preservation. In fact, certain characters are crying out for their own individual tales!
Depending on the success of Project Preservation, depending on how many people enjoy the world, I would never say never returning to the world in some form, but that book in itself would be a completely separate story to Project Preservation. Probably an individual character tale, taking place sometime within the time frame of the original Project Preservation story.
It’s all pondering and fun thoughts for a blog. First, I need to hope Project Preservation gets the support and eyeballs on it I think it deserves. Regardless, Project Preservation isn’t divided into seven books. You have the entire thing done and complete in your hands. Hence the size of the thing!
The story of Project Preservation begins and ends with this book.
