23 Days To Go: The Finished Book Is In The Hands Of Readers!
Retail Copies Are Out There!
And with that… Project Preservation is out there. The first ever retail copies have been sent out to those selected for collectors editions and to ARC readers!
I’ve already received a picture of a friend wearing the included Project Preservation badge! Very surreal. The story, the universe I have been working on for so long, has been set free. People are actually reading it!
Some ask me if it’s scary, now the book is in the hands of readers. I think it may have been before all the layers of polish, beta tear downs and rewrites! Now that I’m truly happy with the story, those fears have gone. I know Project Preservation is the best it can be. I can’t ask for more than that.
It took around four months to completely write the initial story from start to finish. Then the various drafts/rewrites saw some pretty major story changes.
From there, the beta readers who were so essential I included them in the acknowledgments. I cannot stress how critical they were. They helped the story sing! The beta readers enhanced some characters that were obscured by other elements and gave more “punch” to the story.
Then came the drama…
I had an editor who majorly delayed the project. Performed an excellent role with critiques but didn’t complete his work when returning the project to me. He “half arsed” it, as we would say from the UK. I won’t name him, no regrets! As if it wasn’t for the former editor issues, I wouldn’t have found my new editor, Kevin, who worked with the book alongside me to clean it up! This man is a saint!
All of this from the start has taken around three years! Within that time, I took around eight months away from the book after the initial editor issues. When returning to the book after the hiatus I gave the book another rewrite adding in some chapters to solidify some characters back stories and I also removed an entire chapter from the book on the advice of a Beta reader because of the embarrassingly blatant spoiler it was.
Naye (and this is my favourite part) became much, much more than she initially was in the early draft. Much more significant in the world of Project Preservation…and beyond! Anything else I say about that will be creeping into spoiler territory.
All the rewrites are over, edits are done and now, the Sci-Fi fans decide the fate of Project Preservation. I’ve done my part and am so proud to have written it.
Over to you!
